The International Crimes Tribunal has sentenced ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal to death in a case of crimes against humanity for the July-August 24 genocide.
At the same time, former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, who pleaded guilty and testified against the former Prime Minister-Home Minister in the tribunal as a state witness, has been sentenced to 5 years in prison.
This is the first case filed in connection with crimes against humanity, including killings during the mass uprising, the verdict of which was delivered today.
On Monday (November 17), at 12:40 pm, Justice Md. Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury, a member of the judicial panel, began reading the first part of the 453-page verdict in six chapters. The other member of the three-member judicial panel led by Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumder, Chairman of Tribunal-1, is Justice Md. Shafiul Alam Mahmud.
The tribunal announced the verdict against Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal at 2:50 pm after reading a brief verdict of 2 hours and 10 minutes.
