The Prime Minister of the Houthi rebel government in Yemen, Ahmed al-Rahawi, has been killed in an Israeli airstrike. Israeli warplanes carried out an airstrike on the country's capital, Sanaa, on Thursday (August 28).
The occupiers bombed an apartment in Sanaa. The prime minister of the rebel government was killed there, according to the Yemeni media outlet Al-Jumu'hriya.
Another media outlet, Aden al-Ghad, reported that Prime Minister Ahmed al-Rahawi lost his life along with several of his companions.
Yesterday, Israeli Hebrew-language media reported that at least 10 high-ranking officials of the Houthi rebel government, including the defense minister, were attacked. It is believed that their prime minister was attacked separately, according to the English media outlet The Times of Israel.
An Israeli military source said that the Houthi rebels, including the defense minister, had gathered to listen to a speech by their main leader, Abdul Malek al-Houthi.
They were attacked based on intelligence information. Although the area is protected by air defense systems, Israeli warplanes were able to attack it. The number of casualties in the attack was not known, Israeli military sources said.
In 2015, Iran-backed Houthi rebels captured the Yemeni capital, Sanaa. Then, the then President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi fled to Saudi Arabia and declared the Houthi government illegitimate. In his support, a massive Saudi-led military offensive was launched in Yemen. However, the Houthis could not be repelled, and they still hold control of Sanaa. Rahavi was the prime minister of this government.
The Houthis were regularly attacking Israel with drones and ballistic missiles because of their brutality in Gaza, Palestine. In the meantime, Israel killed their prime minister yesterday.
