ZI Khan Panna will fight for Sheikh Hasina and other fugitives

The International Crimes Tribunal has scheduled the hearing of framing charges against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Tarek Siddiqui and 30 others in two cases of crimes against humanity related to disappearances and torture during Sheikh Hasina's regime for December 3. At the same time, the tribunal has appointed senior lawyer ZI Khan Panna as the state lawyer for the fugitive Sheikh Hasina and other fugitives in this case.

On Sunday (November 23), the three-member International Crimes Tribunal-1 headed by Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumder fixed this date.

Earlier, at around 10 am, 13 army officers were produced before the International Crimes Tribunal in two cases of crimes against humanity related to disappearances and torture in the TFI-JIC cell during the Awami League regime. There are 30 accused in these two cases, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The 13 army officers brought before the tribunal are: Brigadier General Md., former Additional Director General of RAB Jahangir Alam, Brigadier General Tofail Mostafa Sarwar, Brigadier General Md. Kamrul Hasan, Brigadier General Md. Mahabub Alam, Brigadier KM Azad, Colonel Abdullah Al Momen, Colonel Anwar Latif Khan (on retirement leave), former director of RAB's intelligence wing Lieutenant Colonel Md. Mashiur Rahman, Lieutenant Colonel Saiful Islam Sumon, Lieutenant Colonel Md. Sarwar Bin Kashem, former director of DGFI Major General Sheikh Md. Sarwar Hossain, Brigadier General Md. Mahbubur Rahman Siddiqui and Brigadier General Ahmed Tanvir Mazahar Siddiqui.

Meanwhile, the law enforcement agencies have been stepped up since morning to bring the army officers to the tribunal. Police, BGB and RAB members are guarding the premises of the tribunal and the Supreme Court. Those in charge also said that they are ready to deal with any situation.

The hearing of these two cases of crimes against humanity was scheduled for November 20. However, today was fixed in view of the prosecution's application. On October 26, a two-member judicial panel led by Justice Md. Shafiul Alam Mahmud of Tribunal-1 issued the order.

Earlier, on October 22, 13 officers who were in military custody were produced before the tribunal. After the hearing, the tribunal ordered them to be arrested and sent to jail. At the same time, it was ordered to publish notices in two national newspapers within seven days to summon the absconding accused. Which have already been published.

On October 8, the prosecution filed formal charges against a total of 30 people in two separate cases. Later, the tribunal took cognizance of the charges and issued arrest warrants against them. Sheikh Hasina and 17 others were accused in the torture case of being held in a secret cell of the RAB Task Force Interrogation (TFI).

The others are Sheikh Hasina's former defense advisor Major General (retd) Tariq Ahmed Siddique, former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, former IGP Benazir Ahmed, former RAB DG M Khurshid Hossain, former RAB Director General Barrister Harun Or Rashid, Colonel Anwar Latif Khan, Brigadier General Jahangir Alam, Tofail Mostafa Sarwar, RAB officer KM Azad, Brigadier General Kamrul Hasan, Mahbub Alam, Abdullah Al Momen, Sarwar Bin Kashem, Khairul Islam, Mashiur Rahman Jewel and Saiful Islam Sumon. Among them, 10 army officers have been arrested.

In addition, 13 people were accused in another case of crimes against humanity on charges of disappearance in the Joint Interrogation Cell (JIC) or the mirror house. Sheikh Hasina-Tariq Ahmed Siddique's name is also in this case. The other accused are - former DGFI Director General (DG) Lt. General (retd) Mohammad Akbar Hossain, former DG Major General (retd) Saiful Abedin, Lt. General (retd) Md. Saiful Alam, former DG Lt. General Tabrez Shams Chowdhury, former DG Major General (retd) Hamidul Haque, Major General Touhidul Islam, Major General Sarwar Hossain, Major General Kabir Ahmed, Brigadier General Mahbubur Rahman Siddique, Brigadier General Ahmed Tanvir Mazhar Siddique and Lt. Colonel (retd) Makhsurul Haque. Three people are in prison in this case, but the rest are absconding.
