Full verdict on death sentences of Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Kamal published

The full verdict on the death sentences of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal for crimes against humanity in the July uprising has been published.

The full verdict on their death sentences was published on Wednesday (November 26). As a result, Sheikh Hasina and Kamal will have to appeal within the next 30 days.

The International Crimes Tribunal sentenced Sheikh Hasina to death on November 17 in a case of crimes against humanity committed during the July uprising. The tribunal also sentenced former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal to death. Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, who was a state witness in the case, was sentenced to five years in prison. The verdict also ordered the confiscation of all the properties of Sheikh Hasina and Kamal in the country.

The three-member International Crimes Tribunal-1 headed by Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumder announced the verdict.

The trial against Sheikh Hasina has been completed on charges of murder, conspiracy, incitement and high-level corruption. The five specific charges include: making provocative statements at a press conference at Ganabhaban, ordering the use of helicopters and lethal weapons, the killing of student Abu Sayeed in Rangpur, the killing in Chankharpool, and the killing and burning of bodies in Ashulia.

The court sentenced her to death on the last three charges. While she was sentenced to life imprisonment on the first two charges.
