Amanullah Aman, Central Organizing Secretary of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), has alleged that Jamaat-e-Islami was directly involved in the recent attack on Gono Odhikar Parishad President and former DUCSU VP Nurul Haque Nur. He claimed that Jamaat is deliberately creating instability in the country with the intention of disrupting and delaying the electoral process.
He made the allegations on Tuesday (September 2) while addressing a protest rally and sit-in organized by the Rajshahi University unit of JCD at the Paris Road area of the campus.
The program was organized in protest against the public gang-rape threat issued to a female student who filed a writ against the student wing of Jamaat (Shibir) in the DUCSU election, harassment of female JCD leaders at Rajshahi University, and the continued cyberbullying of female students across the country.
Aman said,
“The student wing Shibir belongs to Jamaat-e-Islami. At this moment, they do not want any election. To prove that there is no conducive environment for polls, they are deliberately spreading chaos across the country. In the recent attack on Nurul Haque Nur and many other incidents, members of Jamaat were involved on both sides. They infiltrate, create sabotage, and then claim that elections cannot be held. Their main objective is to delay the election, but people now understand this conspiracy.”
Referring to the threat against the female student, Aman added,
“Shibir always claims that they never go outside their chain of command. Then is this harassment of a female activist also within their chain of command? If so, then this reflects their true ideological position.”
On the upcoming Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (RUCSU) election, Aman alleged that the administration is working in favor of Shibir. He said,
“The entire administration seems to have been influenced by Jamaat. But we will not allow any violent past to return to Rajshahi University. We will resist it with the last drop of our blood.”
The rally was attended by Rajshahi University JCD President Sultan Ahmed Rahi, Senior Vice President Shakilur Rahman Sohag, General Secretary Johurul Haque Sardar, along with hundreds of leaders and activists from different levels of the organization.
Earlier, a protest march was brought out from Paris Road, which paraded through different parts of the campus before returning to the same spot for the sit-in program.
It is noteworthy that JCD has been demonstrating for the past several days demanding the inclusion of first-year students in the RUCSU voter list. Tuesday’s program was part of that ongoing movement.
