Chhatra Dal activist stabbed to death in clash between two BNP factions

A young man named Gazi Tahmid Khan (25) was killed in a clash between BNP leaders and activists in Mirsarai, Chittagong.

He died at Chittagong Medical College Hospital around 12 midnight on Wednesday (December 10).

The deceased Tahmid is the son of Mohammad Alamgir of Ward No. 3 East Hinguli area of ​​Baroiarhat Municipality. He was associated with the anti-discrimination movement. Later, he became a member of the North District of United People's (UP) Bangladesh. He finally joined the Chhatra Dal. Tahmid was also the joint convener of Mirsarai Upazila for Safe Roads.

Locals said that on Wednesday afternoon, Hinguli Union Volunteer Dal leader Zubair was sitting with his feet up in a shop in Baroiarhat Municipality Market. At that time, when he saw Nazrul Islam Liton, former joint convener of Baroiarhat Municipality BNP, he kicked Zubair when he did not put his feet down. As a result, they left at some point during the argument between the two groups. Later, clashes broke out between people from Jamalpur and Hinguli, the respective areas of Liton and Zubair. In this, 8 to 10 people including Tahmid, Raihan, Mohan De, Abir and Mozammel were injured. They were later sent to various hospitals.

Sub-Inspector (SI) of the District Police working at Chamek Hospital, Alauddin Talukder said that Tahmid was initially given primary treatment in Zorarganj while he was seriously injured. Later, when he was taken to Chamek Hospital at night, the doctor admitted him to Neurosurgery Ward No. 28. He died while undergoing treatment at around 1 am on Wednesday.

The father of the deceased Tahmid, Md. Alamgir, said, "My only son was killed like this. My son did not do anything wrong. If he had done anything wrong, I would have tried him. What will I live with now? I want justice for the murder of my son."

Bariyarhat Municipality Chhatra Dal General Secretary Mohan Dey said that on Wednesday afternoon, some of them went to a traffic intersection to resolve the dispute between Liton and Zubair. At one point during the conversation, Liton's people attacked them. Several people were injured in the clash. Tahmid was severely injured because he was from their area. He later died at Chittagong Medical College (CMC) Hospital around 12 midnight while undergoing treatment.

Former joint convener of Bariyarhat Municipality BNP Nazrul Islam Liton denied his involvement in the clash and said that there was a minor quarrel before the incident. However, I do not know what happened after. Such an incident could have happened due to internal enmity.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Zorarganj Police Station Kazi Nazmul Haque said that a person named Tahmid was killed in a clash between two factions of the same BNP group due to a junior-senior dispute. His body is currently at CMC Hospital. The body will be taken home after the autopsy. No case has been filed with the police station yet.
