Journalist Anis Alamgir remanded for 5 days

The court has granted a five-day remand to journalist Anis Alamgir in an anti-terrorism law case filed by Uttara West Police Station.

On Monday (December 15), the investigation officer of the case, Inspector Muniruzzaman of Uttara West Police Station, applied for a seven-day remand to interrogate the accused. A hearing was held in the court of Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam in the presence of the accused. The state party argued in favor of remand. After the hearing, the court granted him a five-day remand.

This information was revealed in the court by the Prosecution Division of Uttara West Police Station.

Anis Alamgir was taken into custody by the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) after leaving a gym on Road No. 2 in the capital's Dhanmondi on Sunday (December 14) night. He was then taken to the DB office for questioning.

Meanwhile, on the same night, the central organizer of the July Revolutionary Alliance, Aryan Ahmed, filed a case against actress Meher Afroz Shaon and four others at Uttara Paschim Police Station. The other accused in the case are Maria Kispatta (fashion model) and Imtu Ratish Imtiaz (presenter).

The charges in the case state that although former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fled during the anti-discrimination student movement in July 2024, her followers have been conspiring to commit anti-state crimes by hiding in the country and destabilizing the country and destroying the country's infrastructure. Since August 5, 2024, the accused have been spreading various rumors (propaganda) on various television talk shows including social media to bring back the banned organization. Through this, they are trying to rehabilitate the Awami League. As a result of their various posts, activists of the banned organizations Chhatra League and Jubo League are inspired to commit anti-state crimes and terrorist acts with the aim of destabilizing the state and destroying its infrastructure.
