A major fire broke out in a plastic godown in the capital's Lalbagh, but no casualties have been reported so far, the Fire Service said. Fire Service Deputy Director Mohammad Saleh Uddin briefed reporters on Wednesday (December 17) afternoon.
It is learned that the fire broke out in the Chairman Ghat area around 1:30 pm. Upon receiving the information, 11 units of the Fire Service joined the fire control. Initially, the entire area was covered in thick and black smoke.
However, although the fire was initially extinguished by the initiative of the locals, the Fire Service was informed considering the severity. The cause of the fire, casualties and extent of damage were not immediately known.
Meanwhile, eyewitnesses believe that the fire started from a gas cylinder leakage in the building behind. The godown is 18-20 years old.
