Dhaka-9 MP candidate and National Citizens Party (NCP) Senior Joint Member Secretary Dr. Tasnim Zara's Facebook status asking for help for election expenses has seen money pouring into her account like water from a well!
She confirmed the matter in a post on her verified Facebook ID at around 4:30 am on Tuesday (December 23).
Dr. Tasnim Zara wrote in her Facebook status, "You have sent more than 1.2 million taka in just 7 hours. It was truly beyond our imagination that you would stand by us in such an unprecedented way. Sincere gratitude to you. Our total target is 46,93,580 taka. We will stop fundraising once we have collected 3.4 million taka. We are aware that no more money can be sent to bKash after 2 am due to exceeding the set limit. Donations are being accepted through bank accounts for now."
Earlier, at around 1:30 am, he wrote in another status, "5 lakh 26 thousand taka in just four hours! Four hours ago, I reached out to you. I said that if we want to rise above black money and do a new kind of politics, then the source of that power must be ordinary people like you. Then, in just four hours, you sent 5 lakh 26 thousand taka. But what moved me more than the amount of money was the type of money. Most of the donations came in very small amounts: 5 taka, 10 taka, 20 taka, 50 taka, 100 taka. Many also sent small messages. One wrote, "I am a student. I gave according to my ability."
He also wrote, "Our total target is 46,93,580 taka. In the meantime, we have touched the milestone of 5.26 lakh taka. As soon as the target is met, we will stop our fundraising. I have already told you that we will raise and spend money transparently. So I am sharing the screenshot with you. These two accounts started from scratch. To maintain financial transparency, you will be given a full account. I am grateful for your unprecedented response. Thank you all very much. Ways to send help.
Earlier, Tasnim Zara posted a video on her verified Facebook ID at around 9:15 pm on Monday night asking the public for election expenses. There, she revealed her bKash personal number and bank account. At the same time, she requested that if there are any questions or suggestions, she should inform them on WhatsApp.
Tasnim Zara wrote in the post that a candidate can legally spend a maximum of 25 lakhs or 10 taka per voter in the election. But in reality, it is heard that each candidate spends 20 to 50 crore taka. However, they go to the Election Commission and say that they have spent only 25 lakh taka. As a result, almost everyone's journey to parliament begins by breaking the law and telling lies.
She also wrote, I will not do this politics of dishonesty and lies. I promise that I will not spend a single taka beyond the money allowed by law. Many have said that it is not possible to hold elections with such a small budget. I told them, we have no other way to build a new Bangladesh.
Tasneem Zara further wrote, when the election expenses exceed 10 crore or 20 crore taka, then after being elected, it becomes ‘mandatory’ for them to extort and bid for tenders to collect that money. In this way, politics is snatched from the hands of the common people and goes into the hands of a handful of syndicates.
The MP candidate from Dhaka-9 constituency further wrote, according to the rules of the Election Commission, I can spend a total of 46 lakh 93 thousand 580 taka in this election. I want this money from you.
Dr. Tasneem Zara, Senior Joint Member Secretary of the National Citizens Party (NCP), wrote, I am giving my bank account and bKash number. These are brand new accounts. How much money is coming in and how much is being spent, I will transparently disclose the account of every taka in front of you, with proof.
