JCDA announces boycott of JACSU elections

The Jahangirnagar University Central Students' Union (JCUSU) and Hall Parliament elections have been boycotted by the Chhatra Dal-backed panel, alleging irregularities.

On Thursday (September 11), at around 3:45 pm, the Chhatra Dal-nominated panel's GS candidate Tanjila Hossain Baishakhi made the announcement at a press conference in the guest room of the university's Maulana Bhashani Hall. VP candidate Md. Sheikh Sadi Hasan was present at the time.

Tanjila Hossain Baishakhi complained that we were not allowed to enter Tajuddin Hall. There are no photos of voters on the list, a mob has been created in Hall No. 21. An independent candidate has been attacked in Jahanara Imam Hall.

Alleging that this election has lost its impartiality, she said, "We did not want the OMR machine supplied by the Jamaat leader. But voting is being done on the ballots supplied by that institution. Have 10 to 20 percent of the ballots been given to Shibir?"

Baishakhi said that the same girl has repeatedly gone to vote in the girls' hall. Shibir-backed journalists have misbehaved with Chhatra Dal candidates, as a result of which a fair election is not taking place. This is a rigged and farce election. Therefore, we have to boycott the election. The opinions of the students are not being reflected in the election.

Earlier, the voting for the JACSU election began at 9 am. It will continue till 5 pm. Voting is underway in 224 booths in 21 hall centers of the university. It is reported that the election is being held in a peaceful atmosphere in most of the centers except for a few centers.

This time, the total number of voters in the JACSU election is 11,743. Out of these, 5,728 are female voters and 6,15 are male voters. A total of 177 candidates are contesting for 25 posts in this election.
