Chandina Thana Police arrested a total of six individuals, including drug dealers and suspects under the Anti-Terrorism Act, during a 24-hour special drive. A tense situation unfolded as an active activist of the Barkait Union Jubo League was among those apprehended during the operation conducted on Wednesday, June 24.
According to police sources, a special team of Chandina Thana Police conducted raids in various areas of the upazila to make the arrests. Among the detainees, Nur Ahmed (34), son of Ali Ahmed from the Fatehpur Borobari area, and Al Amin (26), son of Abu Yusuf from Gallai Paschim Para (Pathariabari), were arrested under regular cases and forwarded to the learned court.
In a separate anti-narcotics operation, police arrested two individuals with drugs from the Kutumbapur Paschim Para area under Madhaiya Union. They have been identified as Md. Sohel (30), son of Md. Dhanu Miah, and Din Islam (23), son of Shah Alam. A drug case has been filed against them, and they have been sent to court.
Meanwhile, Md. Elias (34), son of Abdul Hakim from the Srimantapur area, was sentenced to 30 days in prison along with a fine of 100 Taka for drug consumption. Following the sentencing, he was sent to Cumilla Central Jail.
In addition, police arrested Md. Alamgir Hossain (27), son of Chayed Ali from the Srimantapur Purbapara area, under the Anti-Terrorism Act. Alamgir is reported to be an active activist of the Barkait Union Jubo League. He was also forwarded to the learned court after the completion of legal formalities.
Chandina Thana Police stated that this special drive will continue to maintain law and order in the area and to curb drugs and terrorism.
