Jaksur vote counting continues for the third day, when will the results be?

The counting of votes for the Central Students' Union (JACSU) at Jahangirnagar University is continuing for the third day on Saturday. Of these, the counting of votes has been completed in 14 centers, and counting of votes in 7 centers is still pending. However, the time for the results to be published is not yet known.

However, no specific information has been known so far about when the counting will be completed. The Election Commission has announced different deadlines each time.

Chief Election Commissioner Professor Md. Moniruzzaman had said that the election results will be announced after the counting of votes for JACSU and 21 hall parliaments by Friday night.

University Proctor and Member Secretary of the Election Commission AKM Rashidul Alam had announced that the complete counting would be completed between 10 pm and 11 pm on Friday and the results would be published privately. He also said that it would be possible to publish the results by noon.

It is worth noting that the 10th JACSU election was held last Thursday (September 11) after 33 years. The election of the 21 residential hall parliaments of the university was also held on the same day.

The voting, which began at 9 am, continued till 5 pm. The Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal panel announced a boycott of the JACSU elections at around 3:30 pm on Thursday, alleging irregularities, opacity and bias. At the same time, the student union (part of) panel 'Sampritir Oikya' expressed no confidence in the Election Commission. Candidates from various panels also alleged rigging and mismanagement. However, many students see these allegations as political accusations and participated in the voting until the last minute. The counting of votes began at 10:10 pm that day. Two breaks were given in the counting of votes throughout the day on Friday. The Election Commission could not come close to announcing the final results. On Friday morning, polling officer and assistant professor of the university's Fine Arts Department Jannatul Ferdous suddenly fell ill and died while on duty. After that, the vote counting process became even slower. Meanwhile, Professor Mafrohi Sattar resigned from the Election Commission membership last Friday (September 12) night, alleging various irregularities. The students reacted to the incident immediately. At a press conference in front of the Senate building, the Joint Student Alliance alleged that pro-BNP teacher Mafrohi Sattar resigned after the conspiracy to thwart JACSU failed. The Joint Student Alliance also condemned the incident, calling it irresponsible. On the same day, JU VC Professor Kamrul Ahsan held an emergency meeting after stopping the vote counting in view of the slow pace. Later, he said that besides increasing the tables, he would also use more manpower to speed up the counting. He also expressed hope that the vote counting would be completed by night and the results would be announced as usual. But as of 8:30 am on Saturday (September 13), there was no news of the announcement of the results.
