Mirza Fakhrul’s Parliamentary Seat Declared Vacant

The Thakurgaon-1 parliamentary seat has fallen vacant following Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s assumption of office as the President of Bangladesh.

According to Article 50(4) of the Constitution, his parliamentary seat became vacant upon his assuming the office of President, according to a Gazette notification issued by the Bangladesh Parliament Secretariat on Saturday.

Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir assumed office as the 23rd President of Bangladesh at 7:30 pm on August 21, 2026. He was elected President in the presidential election held at Jatiya Sangsad on August 20.

The vacancy of the Thakurgaon-1 seat follows his assumption of the presidency, in accordance with the constitutional provision.
