Businessman files case for embezzlement of Rs 16 crore by threatening DB Harun

A case has been filed in Jessore court against dragon fruit trader Azizul Haque for attempting to embezzle Tk 16 crore.

The victim Shahinuzzaman filed the case as the plaintiff on Sunday (September 14).

Senior Judicial Magistrate Barnali Rani ordered the OC of Jhikargachha Police Station to accept the complaint as a statement.

Court inspector Roksana Khatun confirmed the matter.

Azizul Haque is the son of Sirajul Haque of Ghorakanda area of Bhairab Police Station in Kishoreganj and a resident of Mirpur Pallabi area of Dhaka. Plaintiff Shahinuzzaman is the son of Nazim Uddin of Kotpara of Jibannagar Upazila of Chuadanga and a member of the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce.

The allegations in the case reveal that Azizul met fruit trader Shahinuzzaman in 2022. As part of the business at that time, Shahinuzzaman bought six reconditioned microbuses for Tk 25 million between December 2022 and January 2023 and registered them in his name. However, on August 8, 2023, Azizul Haque took back two of the six microbuses.

At that time, when Shahinuzzaman demanded Tk 156.5 million from Azizul for selling dragon fruit, he threatened him by insinuating the name of the then DB chief Harun Or Rashid. Failing to collect the money, Shahinuzzaman first filed a case in the Chuadanga court.

Later, to escape from the case, Azizul Haque sent a notice to the plaintiff on September 7. It was alleged that the cars purchased by Shahinuzzaman were being rented out by making fake contracts. Then, on September 12, when Azizul Haque asked for money for selling fruit at an arbitration meeting at the BM High School grounds in Jhikargachha, Azizul Haque showed the fake contracts and demanded the return of the cars.

As the settlement failed, Shahinuzzaman finally approached the court on charges of fraud and forgery.

Plaintiff's lawyer Ruhin Baluj said, "My client was cheated by changing the name of the then DB chief Harun-ur-Rashid. Now he has approached the court for justice."
