President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has congratulated Prime Minister Tarique Rahman for his address to the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, describing the speech as visionary, resolute and guiding.In a congratulatory message issued on Friday, the President said the Prime Minister had clearly presented Bangladesh’s national interests, the aspirations of its people and the country’s position on a range of major global issues. He expressed hope that the address would further enhance Bangladesh’s dignity and position in the international arena.According to the President, the Prime Minister’s speech highlighted Bangladesh’s renewed journey towards democracy, along with commitments to human rights, good governance and accountability. It also outlined the government’s vision of building a prosperous, self-reliant and welfare-oriented democratic state.The President noted that the Prime Minister presented the three-R strategy of Recovery, Restoration and Reconstruction as a framework for rebuilding the country.In his UN address, Tarique Rahman also outlined Bangladesh’s priorities on world peace, multilateralism, Palestine, the Rohingya crisis, climate change, economic development, employment, the empowerment of women and young people, education, healthcare and technology.The President further said the speech reflected the serious pressure facing the global economy as a result of wars and conflicts, energy security concerns, disruptions in global energy supplies and rising inflation.Praising the Prime Minister’s view of the United Nations as a central platform for building an understanding-based global community, President Mirza Fakhrul said the call for resolving conflicts through dialogue, diplomacy and mutual cooperation was particularly significant in the current global situation.Referring to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s commitment to “Bangladesh First: Bangladesh for All,” the President said the slogan reflected the aspiration for political and economic empowerment of the people and the establishment of a safe, peaceful and prosperous Bangladesh.The President also described Tarique Rahman’s address to the UN General Assembly as a significant event for the nation, as he became the third member of his family to address the global forum after his father, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, and his mother, former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.The President wished Prime Minister Tarique Rahman good health and a safe and successful visit.
