Family Assembly Held to Raise Awareness in Chandina, Cumilla

A family assembly was held in Chandina, Cumilla, aimed at implementing the government's priority programs and raising public awareness on various social issues. On Tuesday (October 6), the District Information Office, Cumilla, organized the event at the Chandina Upazila Parishad auditorium.

The assembly emphasized creating public awareness regarding various priority initiatives, including family cards, farmer cards, agricultural loan waivers, canal excavation, tree plantation, and ensuring transportation facilities for women. Alongside these, discussions were held on raising awareness to prevent drug abuse, child marriage, moral and human value degradation, rumors, and dengue.

The event was presided over by Senior Information Officer of Cumilla District, Mohammad Nurul Haque, while Chandina Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Ashraful Haque attended as the chief guest.

Special guests included Upazila Social Services Officer Nasima Akter, Upazila Primary Education Officer Rowshan Ara, and Upazila Agriculture Officer Md. Morshed Alam.

In his speech as the chief guest, UNO Mohammad Ashraful Haque stated that women play a vital role in building an ideal and conscious society. Child marriage and drug abuse are dragging society toward various crises. He stressed the importance of ensuring the benefits of priority programs like family cards and farmer cards reach marginalized people, while also focusing on instilling moral and human values in children.

He further added that rumors must not be allowed to spread in society under any circumstances. At the same time, everyone must keep their homes and surrounding environments clean to prevent dengue.

In her speech, Upazila Primary Education Officer Rowshan Ara said that social problems like drug abuse, eve teasing, and child marriage are damaging individuals and families while hindering overall social progress. To prevent these issues, families, educational institutions, religious institutions, and the local community must work together in a coordinated manner.

Upazila Social Services Officer Nasima Akter noted that it is essential to keep houses and surrounding environments clean to prevent dengue. She also urged everyone to be responsible by not believing or spreading unverified information circulated through social media and other platforms. She added that it is important to increase public awareness to prevent subversive activities and to cooperate with law enforcement agencies. Public active participation is also required to implement the government's various targets and developmental activities.

Upazila Agriculture Officer Md. Morshed Alam said that the present time belongs to modern and smart agriculture. To face the challenges of climate change, people must move forward step by step by adopting modern technologies alongside traditional cultivation methods.

He mentioned that the agriculture department is working alongside farmers. The core objective is not just to increase crop production, but to reduce production costs and increase profits for farmers. He urged everyone to work together so that not an inch of land in Chandina Upazila remains uncultivated. Additionally, he called for establishing family nutrition gardens in homesteads.

A large number of local women, prominent figures, teachers, and civil society representatives attended the assembly. The event began with the screening of an awareness film, followed by the distribution of informative leaflets and materials among the attendees.
