Four members of the same family, including a woman and two children, suffered burns in an air conditioner (AC) explosion at a house in the Dhalpur area of Jatrabari, Dhaka.
The incident occurred around 1:30 am on Friday (September 19). Neighbors and relatives quickly rescued the injured and rushed them to the emergency department of the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
The victims have been identified as Md. Tuhin Hossain (38), his wife Iba Akter (30), and their two sons Tanvir (9) and Tawhid (7).
According to Dr. Shawon Bin Rahman, Resident Surgeon of the Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute, Tuhin sustained burns on 47% of his body, Iba 15%, Tawhid 8%, and Tanvir 40%. Three of them have been admitted for treatment, while Tawhid is under observation.
Tuhin’s sister-in-law, Farzana, said that Tuhin worked at Motaleb Plaza in mobile servicing. “At around 1:30 in the night, the AC suddenly exploded, causing a fire. They were later rescued and brought to the Burn Institute,” she added.
