Machado accepted Nobel Prize in my honor: Trump

Machado accepted Nobel Prize in my honor: Trump

US President Donald Trump has expressed anger over not receiving the Nobel Peace Prize. However, he said that Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, who won the Nobel Peace Prize, called him and said that she would accept the award in Trump's honor.

Speaking to reporters at the White House on Friday, Trump said, "The person who received the Nobel called me today and said, 'I'm accepting this award in your honor, because you really deserve it.' It's a very nice thing. I didn't say, 'Then give it to me.' But I think you could have."

Earlier, the White House criticized the Nobel Committee's decision, saying that the committee "prioritized politics over peace."

White House spokesman Steven Cheung wrote on social media X, "President Trump is making peace, ending wars, saving lives. There is no other leader with a human heart like him. The Nobel Committee has proven today that they put politics above peace.

The Nobel Committee has awarded this year's Peace Prize to Maria Corina Machado, whom they described as a "courageous defender of freedom who stood up to dictatorship."

Trump has long promoted himself as a worthy candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize. In particular, he claims to have brokered several international ceasefires and peace agreements, including the latest Gaza ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement.

Trump said, "I have ended eight wars since I came to power. My contribution is so great that they cannot ignore it even if they want to."

However, he had already assumed that the Nobel Committee would not award him the prize this time either.

In a meeting with US military officials last month, Trump said, "Will I get the Nobel Prize? Absolutely not. They're giving it to someone who did nothing.'

He added, 'If I don't get it, it would be a great disgrace to the United States.'

Nominations for the Nobel Prize must be submitted by January 31 of each year. Trump returns to the White House for his second term on January 20, meaning the nomination period for this year's prize is almost over.

Still, Trump believes his contributions are so significant that the committee could have awarded him the prize if they wanted.

Trump said, 'Well, I was on the campaign trail at the time, but many people say I did so much that the Nobel committee should have done that.'
