A son-in-law was killed by his father-in-law's spade due to a family dispute in Haratki Bariya village of Chhotabighai union in Patuakhali Sadar upazila.The incident took place at around 9 pm on Monday (October 20).The deceased has been identified as Avinash Chandra Das (28). He is a resident of Dheukhali village in Sadar upazila.According to police and local sources, Avinash had deposited some cash and gold ornaments at his in-laws' house a few days ago. On Monday around 5 pm, he went to his in-laws' house with his wife Monika Das and demanded the money and ornaments back. At that time, he got into an argument with his father-in-law Shanti Das, brother-in-law Hridoy Das and his wife. At one point, his father-in-law and brother-in-law hit Avinash on the head with a spade, killing him on the spot. Immediately after the incident, his family members including father-in-law Shanti Das, brother-in-law Hridoy Das and wife Monika Das fled the house. On receiving the information, the police recovered the body from the scene and sent it to the morgue of Patuakhali Medical College Hospital.Patuakhali Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Imtiaz Ahmed said that a body has been recovered from the scene. The process of taking legal action is underway. The operation to arrest those involved in the murder is ongoing.
