Former Mayor Ivy granted bail in 5 cases by High Court

The High Court has granted bail to former Narayanganj City Corporation Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy in five cases, including the murder case of garment worker Minarul, as part of the student-public movement against discrimination.

The High Court bench of Justice ASM Abdul Mobin and Justice Sagir Hossain gave the verdict on Sunday (November 9).

The court declared the rule regarding her bail appropriate and gave the verdict. Barrister Sara Hossain heard on behalf of Ivy in the court.

Earlier, in May, the court rejected the bail application of former Narayanganj City Corporation Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy, who was imprisoned in the murder case of garment worker Minarul during the student-public movement against discrimination.

On the evening of July 20 last year, garment worker Minarul Islam was shot in the Adamjee area during the student movement against discrimination. Later, when he was taken to the 300-bed Narayanganj Hospital in Khanpur, doctors declared him dead. He was buried in his village house the next day.

On September 23, Minarul's brother Nazmul Haque filed a murder case with Siddhirganj Police Station, naming 132 people including Sheikh Hasina and 300 other unidentified people as accused. The 12th accused in the case is Selina Hayat Ivy. Later, more cases were filed against her.

It is worth noting that on May 9, former mayor Ivy was arrested from her home in Paschim Deobhog in the city and produced in court in a murder case, but the court ordered her to be sent to jail. On May 27, the court ordered Ivy to be sent to jail after a two-day remand in the Minarul murder case.
