An application was filed to bring a case against 42 people, including Asif Mahmud, spokesperson of the National Citizen Party (NCP), over the killing of a police member during the July mass uprising. However, the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court did not accept it.

On Thursday (March 12), a complaint related to the police killing was submitted to the court of Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Raunak Jahan Taki.

A total of 42 people were named in the complaint, with Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, spokesperson of the National Citizen Party (NCP), listed as the main accused. After hearing and reviewing the complaint, the court did not take the case into cognizance.

The plaintiff of the case, Jalal Hossain, is the son of Abdul Khaleq from Jangirai village under Juri police station in Moulvibazar district.

After the mass uprising and the fall of the Awami League government, an interim government was formed on August 8, 2024, under the leadership of Professor Muhammad Yunus. In that government, three student representatives who led the July uprising were appointed as advisers, one of whom was Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan.

Initially, he was responsible for the Ministry of Labour and the Ministry of Youth and Sports. Later, he served as an adviser to the Ministry of Local Government as well as the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
