A 58-year-old housewife, Bina Rani Roy, was allegedly beaten to death after miscreants broke into her home in Chandina, Cumilla. The tragic incident occurred at around 8:30 PM on Monday at the Sheel House in South Para of Barkait Union under the upazila. The deceased was the wife of Dilip Kumar Roy of that area.

According to relatives and local residents, Bina Rani and her husband lived alone in the house as other family members resided elsewhere for employment. As per her daily routine, she was watching television at home after performing evening prayers on Monday. At that time, her husband had gone to a local shop to have tea. Taking advantage of the situation, unidentified criminals entered the house and began beating her indiscriminately. Hearing her frantic screams, her brother-in-law and neighbors rushed from adjacent houses, prompting the attackers to flee the scene. She was rescued in critical condition and taken to Cumilla Medical College Hospital, where the attending doctor declared her dead.

Regarding the incident, the deceased's son, Tapas Roy, said that the assailants seized the opportunity to enter the house and brutally beat his mother to death. However, they could not immediately determine the exact reason behind the murder or identify those involved.

Barkait Union Parishad Chairman Nure Alam stated that locally, it is suspected the murder might have stemmed from a previous enmity. It was also learned that the family had a long-standing land dispute with neighbors.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chandina Police Station, Md. Nuruzzaman, said that upon receiving the news, police recovered the body and sent it to the Cumilla Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy. Multiple police teams are currently working to uncover the motive behind the killing and arrest those responsible. Process is underway to file a murder case with Chandina Police Station in connection with the incident.
