The National Citizens Party (NCP) has agreed to register the 'Shapla Kali' as its symbol, said the party's joint member secretary, Zahirul Haque Musa.
NCP Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari, Joint Member Secretary Zahirul Islam Musa, and Joint Convener Khaled Saifullah entered the CEC's office at 3 pm on Sunday (November 2) to meet him. Zahirul Haque Musa told reporters after the meeting.
He said that last Thursday, the Election Commission published a gazette adding several symbols including Shapla Kali. In continuation of that, the NCP has chosen a symbol from the EC's list and submitted an application today. Among them, the first is Shapla, the second is white Shapla, and the third is Shapla Kali. In that case, the NCP will accept it if it gets Shapla Kali, he said.
Those concerned said that the meeting is being held with the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) regarding the inclusion of 'Shapla' in the list of voting symbols. Despite repeated demands, the EC has already decided not to allocate the Shapla symbol to any party. The EC said that the NCP cannot be allocated the 'Shapla' symbol as it is not in the EC's election rules.
A notification signed by Election Commission Secretary Akhtar Ahmed was published on Thursday, which included a list of symbols for registered political parties and independent candidates. Shapla Kali has been added to this list, although the NCP has been demanding Shapla as their party symbol for a long time.
The Election Commission has decided to register two parties ahead of the 13th parliamentary elections. Among them is the NCP, and the process of issuing a notification is underway to find out if there are any objections to the party.
