BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir shared a long and emotional post on his verified Facebook page yesterday (Tuesday, November 11) night, highlighting the bitter experience of political life in Bangladesh, false cases, oppression and inhumane conditions in prisons.

In the post, he recounted the memory of a bag he gave to his daughter while visiting her in prison, ‘When my daughter came to visit me, in Dhaka jail, I gave her this bag! A prisoner made the bag inside the jail! I bought it from her! I don't know if he made this bag with someone in mind!'

He wrote that he had personally seen the kind of political repression, false cases and genocidal tactics that have been used in the last fifteen years. He claimed about himself, 'I was a defendant in more than 110 cases filed against me by the Awami League. From burning garbage trucks to murder cases! All false cases! I was in jail for more than two and a half years!' He also mentioned that while in jail, he saw his sick wife running from court to court and had to sleep in jail.

Fakhrul's post mentioned that the torture and torture that is being done to ordinary workers of his party in jail is truly heartbreaking. He wrote, I have seen what kind of torture has been done to our sons in jail! There are scars of torture all over their bodies! The lives and futures of many have ended in jail! He claimed that cases against innocent people cannot be a part of politics and demanded that these cases be withdrawn.

At the same time, Fakhrul emphasized that he does not believe in the politics of revenge; his goal is to establish the rule of law in the country. He demanded that every false and harassing case filed by the Awami League against every political leader and worker must be withdrawn! Every crime of Hasina and her mafia must be tried! We do not believe in revenge! We will file a case against the real wrongdoer and ensure punishment.
