Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Tamim Iqbal has hinted at major uncertainty over whether the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) will be held this year. However, he said his priority is to organise the tournament in a more structured and professional manner.In an exclusive interview with a local media outlet, Tamim spoke about the future of the BPL and said, “The BPL may not be held this year. The chairman of the BPL Governing Council can explain it better.”Asked whether there was any plan to discontinue the BPL altogether, the BCB president said, “Personally, I want the BPL to be organised properly. There should be discussions about the cricket, the wins and losses. I don’t want negative news about financial issues surrounding the tournament.”He added, “Although the BPL is a franchise-based tournament, it is Bangladesh’s tournament in the eyes of the world. It is our responsibility to protect its image.”Asked whether not holding the BPL this year could have a negative impact ahead of the 2028 T20 World Cup, Tamim said, “Even if we cannot hold it this year, we can organise it properly in 2027. Besides, there are other T20 tournaments.”Tamim also spoke about club cricket in Dhaka, saying the overall situation had been fairly positive.“It has been fairly good. After we came in, the Dhaka Premier League was held. The third division was also held. The new season will begin soon,” he said.Regarding the second division teams that did not participate, Tamim said, “There is an issue of providing financial assistance to the players who were affected because the teams did not participate in the second division. We will discuss it and resolve the matter as well.”
