Police Arrest 3 Awami Youth League Activists During Flash Procession on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway
3 Youth League activists detained

Police have arrested three leaders and activists of the banned Awami Youth League while they were holding a flash procession on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway at Chandina in Comilla. They were detained around 1:30 PM on Friday (September 18) from the Tirchar-Lajair border area, which intersects Chandina, Daudkandi, and Muradnagar upazilas.

The arrestees have been identified as Md. Sarwar (16), son of Abdul Aziz from Hatash village under Bangra Bazaar Police Station; Saddam Hossain (27), son of the late Shishu Miah from Doulbari village under the same police station; and Sarwar Hossain Rakib (30), son of Jaynal Abedin from Chechrapukuria village in Debidwar upazila.

According to local sources, a procession led by former Debidwar Upazila Chairman Mamunur Rashid Mamun was brought out around 1:00 PM on the Chittagong-bound lane of the highway, originating from the Lajair area of Muradnagar. As the procession moved toward Tirchar in Chandina, police gave chase. While three individuals were detained on the spot, others managed to flee.

Local sources further mentioned that slogans such as "Sheikh Hasina Asbe, Bangladesh Hasbe" (Sheikh Hasina will return, Bangladesh will smile) were chanted during the procession. A banner of Comilla North District Youth League and several national flags were recovered from their possession.

Regarding the incident, Chandina Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Nuruzzaman stated, "They were detained by our patrolling team on the highway. However, the exact location where they were apprehended falls under the territorial jurisdiction of Muradnagar Police Station."

He added that accordingly, the detainees will be handed over to Muradnagar Police Station for further legal action.
