inqilab Moncho announces 36-day 'March for Justice'

inqilab Moncho has announced a 36-day programme titled ‘March for Justice’, demanding justice, state accountability and the implementation of the aspirations of the July Mass Uprising. The programme is scheduled to begin on October 7 from Banglabandha, the country’s northernmost point, and conclude at the Zero Point in Teknaf.

The announcement was made on Monday (October 5) at a discussion meeting held at the Tafazzal Hossain Manik Mia Hall of the National Press Club in Dhaka. Representatives of various political parties, social and cultural organisations, writers, activists, participants in the July Mass Uprising and family members of martyrs attended the meeting.

The meeting was chaired by inqilab Moncho Convener Abdullah Al Jaber. Member Secretary Fatema Tasnim Juma presented details of the 36-day programme, saying it would include marches, roadside meetings and rallies in different parts of the country.

According to her, the programme aims to establish direct communication with people across the country and build public support for justice and a democratic system of governance.

As part of the first phase, inqilab Moncho will march from northern Bangladesh towards Dhaka. A rally is scheduled to be held on October 21 at the Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi Square in Shahbagh. The march will then move towards the eastern region before concluding at the Zero Point in Teknaf.

The three-point demands of the ‘March for Justice’ include ensuring justice for the killing of Shaheed Osman Hadi, implementing the July Charter in accordance with the public mandate expressed through the referendum, and ensuring justice for the July, Pilkhana and Shapla massacres.

Speakers at the meeting said the killing of inqilab Moncho spokesperson Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi has become a matter of national concern. They called for a fair, impartial and speedy investigation to identify those responsible and bring them to justice.

Among those who addressed the meeting were AB Party General Secretary Barrister Asaduzzaman Fuad, Bangladesh Azad Party President retired Colonel Hasinur Rahman, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Social Welfare Secretary Shaheen Ahmed Khan, National Citizen Party Joint Convener Ali Ahsan Junayed, Islami Andolan Bangladesh Office Secretary Maulana Lokman Hossain Jafri, Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis Organising Secretary Mohammad Faisal and Bangladesh Green Party spokesperson Yusuf Ammar.

Poet Borhan Mahmud, cultural figure Asaduzzaman, General Secretary of the General Alim Society Kabir Hossain, July uprising activist Abdullah Al Shafil, Dhaka University Central Students’ Union General Secretary S M Farhad and JDP Convener Naim Ahmed also spoke at the meeting.

Leaders and representatives attending the discussion expressed solidarity with the programme. They also urged people from all sections of society to participate in the initiative from their respective positions in support of establishing justice.
