Child sexually assaulted in Comilla's Chandina; local elders attempt cover-up through village arbitration

An allegation of sexual assault and severe physical injury against a seven-year-old child has been brought against a local muezzin named Sanaullah Miyaji (60) in Chandina, Comilla.

According to local sources, last Sunday afternoon (October 11) in Shalipara village of Chandina, while the victim's family was working in the field, Sanaullah lured the child into his tea shop with the promise of biscuits. There, he sexually assaulted the child. The injured child returned home and informed the family about the incident.

Following the incident, the accused offered 3,000 BDT to silence the matter. Later, local elders convened a village arbitration (salish) to cover up the event and imposed a fine of 1,10,000 BDT on Sanaullah. However, the victim's family rejected the proposal. Upon receiving news of the arbitration, police arrived at the spot, but Sanaullah had already fled before their arrival.

In connection with this incident, the child's mother filed a case as the plaintiff with Chandina Police Station on Monday (October 12) night. Chandina Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Nuruzzaman stated that an investigation is underway based on the written complaint, and legal action is being taken to arrest the fleeing accused.
