A red carpet was rolled out to welcome Prime Minister Tarique Rahman as he arrived in Beijing from Dalian by high-speed bullet train after attending the Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in China's Dalian city.
The Prime Minister, accompanied by his spouse Dr. Zubaida Rahman, arrived at Beijing Chaoyang Railway Station at 5:35 pm local time on Wednesday.
He was received by Sun Meijun, Minister and Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Committee of the General Administration of Customs of China. Upon arrival, children presented bouquets to the Prime Minister and his spouse. He was also accorded a static guard of honour and a ceremonial welcome.
From Chaoyang Railway Station, the Prime Minister and members of his delegation were escorted to the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in a ceremonial motorcade.
Earlier in the day, Tarique Rahman departed Dalian North Railway Station at 1:58 pm local time aboard a high-speed bullet train bound for Beijing.
The Prime Minister's entourage includes Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Aninda Islam Amit, Foreign Affairs Adviser Humaiun Kobir, Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Adviser Mahdi Amin, and Defence Adviser Brigadier General (Retd.) Dr. AKM Shamsul Islam.
Before leaving Dalian, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman attended the plenary session of the World Economic Forum at the Dalian International Conference Centre. The session was chaired by WEF President and CEO Alois Zwinggi.
Among the distinguished participants were Chinese Premier Li Qiang, South Korean Prime Minister Kim Min-seok, Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, Mongolian Prime Minister Nyam-Osoryn Uchral, Montenegrin Prime Minister Milojko Spajić, and Guinean Prime Minister Amadou Oury Bah.
More than 1,700 government representatives, policymakers, business leaders, and technology entrepreneurs from over 90 countries took part in the conference.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman arrived in Dalian on Monday from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, marking the second leg of his first official overseas tour.
Officials described the visit as taking place at a significant moment, as Bangladesh and China enter the next phase of their diplomatic relationship, known as the “Golden 50 Years.” They noted that the Prime Minister’s maiden visit to China carries historic importance in sustaining past achievements and shaping the future course of bilateral relations.
On June 23, 2026, Tarique Rahman addressed a WEF session titled “Climate Leadership in a Shifting Global Landscape” at the Dalian International Conference Centre, where he highlighted his government's initiatives to address climate change challenges.
During his speech, he urged the international community to prioritize three key areas: operationalizing the Loss and Damage Fund, improving access to climate finance, and giving equal emphasis to adaptation and mitigation efforts. He also called on global leaders to fulfill their commitments to millions of people whose lives are threatened by climate change.
On the sidelines of the conference, WEF President Alois Zwinggi met with the Bangladeshi Prime Minister. The two held extensive discussions on attracting investment, creating employment opportunities, and advancing Bangladesh’s development agenda.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman began his overseas tour on June 21 with a two-day official visit to Malaysia. During his stay in Kuala Lumpur, he held a one-on-one meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
Following high-level talks between the two countries, one Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and two additional cooperation instruments were signed. Discussions focused on expanding trade and investment, energy cooperation, the halal economy, workforce recruitment and deployment, the semiconductor industry, agriculture, education, and people-to-people connectivity.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to return to Bangladesh on June 26, concluding his first official overseas tour.
