A daring robbery took place late at night in Chandina, Cumilla, after a gang broke the lock of the main gate of an expatriate family's two-story house. A group of 10 to 12 masked robbers held the family members hostage at weapon-point and looted cash, a large quantity of gold ornaments, and mobile phones. While fleeing the scene, the gang also snatched mobile phones from two pedestrians on the road.
The incident occurred around 2:00 AM on Tuesday (September 8) at the 'Daroga Bari' in the Harang area under Chandina Municipality. The owner of the affected house, Khalilur Rahman, stated that his two sons currently work in Saudi Arabia.
Describing the ordeal, Khalilur Rahman said that around 2:00 AM, a gang of 10 to 12 masked men armed with local weapons broke the lock of their main gate and entered the building. Within moments, they held all the family members hostage. The robbers then fled with BDT 74,600 in cash, two gold bangles, three rings, four chains, one necklace, two pairs of earrings, several silver ornaments, and four smartphones.
According to local sources, while making their escape after the robbery, the gang intercepted two individuals, Abu Hanif and Redwan—in the Abdulipar area of Harang village and snatched two more mobile phones from them. Local residents expressed anger and panic, blaming the lack of adequate police patrolling and security measures at night for the recurring crimes in the area.
In this regard, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chandina Police Station, Md. Nuruzzaman, stated that upon receiving the news, police inspected the scene and initiated an investigation. Multiple police teams are actively working to identify the culprits involved and bring them to justice.
