Prime Minister Tarique Rahman paid a courtesy call on President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at Bangabhaban on Tuesday afternoon, marking their first meeting since the latter assumed office as head of state.President’s Press Secretary Md Sarwar Alam confirmed the meeting to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS).The Prime Minister arrived at Bangabhaban at around 3:00 pm, where the President welcomed him. The President subsequently introduced the Prime Minister to his Military Secretary, Secretary, Press Secretary and other senior officials.During the meeting, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman briefed the President on his recent visit to the United States, including his participation in the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.He also shared details of his engagements with heads of state and government from different countries, the UN Secretary-General, senior UN officials and representatives of international economic and development partner organisations.The President congratulated the Prime Minister on his address to the UN General Assembly, describing it as visionary, resolute and forward-looking.He observed that the speech reflected Bangladesh’s national interests and aspirations while clearly outlining the country’s position on major global issues.The President expressed hope that the Prime Minister’s address would further strengthen Bangladesh’s standing and reputation on the international stage.He also noted that the US visit had contributed to consolidating Bangladesh’s international position, safeguarding public interests and expanding bilateral and multilateral relations.Various issues concerning national and state interests were also discussed during the meeting.At the conclusion of the courtesy call, the President thanked the Prime Minister for visiting Bangabhaban.
