Nordic Ambassadors Meet NCP Chief Nahid Islam

The Ambassadors of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden to Bangladesh paid a courtesy call on National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener and Opposition Chief Whip Md Nahid Islam at the party’s central office in Dhaka today.

The meeting was attended by H.E. Christian Brix Møller, Ambassador of Denmark; H.E. Håkon Arald Gulbrandsen, Ambassador of Norway; and H.E. Nicolas Weeks, Ambassador of Sweden. They held an extensive discussion with Mr. Nahid Islam, MP, on a range of contemporary political and economic issues. The party’s International Affairs In-Charge Mr. Alauddin Mohammad and Europe Desk Coordinator Mr. Navid Nowroz Shah were also present at the meeting.

During the meeting, both of the delegations exchanged views on the implementation of the key reforms outlined in the July Charter, which was recently endorsed through a popular referendum. Discussions also covered the forthcoming local government elections and areas of mutual economic interest between Bangladesh and the Nordic countries.

The ambassadors sought to learn about NCP’s position regarding the Constitutional Reform Committee proposed by the Government and the rationale behind the party’s stance. They also expressed concern over the recent blast that occurred during NCP’s July rally and shared their observations regarding the deteriorating law and order situation in the country.

The envoys appreciated NCP’s perspectives on the National Budget and exchanged ideas on enhancing foreign direct investment from Nordic countries, with particular emphasis on creating employment opportunities for Bangladesh’s youth.

The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to continued dialogue, democratic engagement, and constructive international cooperation.
