Veteran politician, social worker, and well-known personality in the religious and social spheres of Comilla, Tapan Bakshi, is no more. He breathed his last on Thursday (August 20, 2026) at 8:00 AM while undergoing treatment at Moon Hospital in Comilla. He was 73 years old at the time of his passing. A resident of the Harang Bakshi house in Chandina, he was the son of Vidhubhushan Bakshi. He leaves behind his wife, a son, two daughters, and numerous relatives, friends, colleagues, and well-wishers.During his long political and social career, Tapan Bakshi served as the former Chairman of Chandina Upazila. He was also the President of the Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad, Comilla District unit. A student of the SSC 1970 batch from Chandina Pilot High School, he remained active in various social, religious, and organizational activities throughout his life, standing by the people.A deep shadow of grief has descended upon Chandina and the entire Comilla district following the news of his passing. Expressing deep condolences to the bereaved family, tributes were paid by Chandan Kumar Roy, President of the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council (Comilla District unit); Principal Tapas Kumar Bakshi, General Secretary; Advocate Tapas Chandra Sarkar, ICT Secretary; and Madhusudan Biswas Liton, Organizational Secretary.Condolences were also expressed by Nirmal Paul, Acting President of the Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad (Comilla District unit); Narayan Chandra Sarkar, Acting General Secretary; Kamal Chanda Khokan, Convener of Comilla City Unity Council; Yogesh Chandra Sarkar, President of Adarsha Sadar Upazila Puja Udjapan Parishad; and Senior Vice President Dr. Madhusudan Roy. He will always be remembered by people from all walks of life for his organizational skills, experience, and years of dedicated social service.
