Madrasa Student Sexually Assaulted: Accused Teacher Detained During Village Arbitration

Police have detained a teacher named Md. Monir Hossain (32) on charges of sexually assaulting a madrasa student in Chandina Upazila, Cumilla. He was detained around 8:30 PM on Tuesday during a village arbitration session organized over the incident at Dollai Nawabpur Union Parishad. The detained teacher, Hafez Monir Hossain, is the son of Alamgir Hossain from Rasulpur village under Maijkhar Union in Chandina Upazila. He works as a teacher in the Noorani department at Nawabpur Markazun Noor Madrasa in the Dollai Nawabpur Bazar area.

According to the victim student, teacher Monir Hossain called him into a room late Monday night on the pretext of having his head and feet massaged and forcibly assaulted him there. The following morning, Tuesday, the student returned home and informed his family members. Local residents then detained and questioned the teacher. Locals claimed that during questioning, he confessed to the incident, whereupon the enraged crowd physically assaulted him and brought him to the Union Parishad.

Later in the evening, Dollai Nawabpur Union Parishad Chairman Md. Shahjahan Miah and local dignitaries gathered for a village arbitration to compromise and settle the matter. Local media personnel present at the location learned about the incident and immediately informed the police. Upon receiving the news, police arrived at the scene and took the accused teacher into custody from the Union Parishad.

When asked about the village arbitration, Union Parishad Chairman Md. Shahjahan Miah stated that both parties had come to the parishad seeking a settlement, which led them to hold the arbitration, but the police later arrived and took the accused away.

Addressing the matter, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chandina Police Station, Md. Nuruzzaman, said that upon being alerted by local journalists, police promptly rushed to the spot and brought the accused teacher to the station. He added that the victim's family is preparing to file a case in connection with the incident.
