Police have arrested a youth named Rakibul Hasan in Chandina upazila of Comilla on charges of hurting religious sentiments and insulting religion. He was arrested from Faridpur village of Barera union of the upazila on Friday (August 14) night. He is the son of the deceased Moynal Hossain of Faridpur village of Barera union of the upazila.According to police and local sources, Rakibul Hasan has been allegedly making derogatory posts about Islam, Hinduism and other religions on social media for a long time. Recently, by editing various images using artificial intelligence (AI), he added a picture of Hindu religious saint Loknath Brahmachari in front of the Kaaba Sharif in the holy city of Mecca and published it on Facebook. When the picture went viral on social media, tension arose in the area. Later, local people arrested him and handed him over to Chandina police station.In this regard, Chandina police station officer-in-charge (OC) Md. Nuruzzaman said, "He has been arrested on charges of insulting religion. He has been sent to court after completing the legal process."
