Mysterious Death of Housewife Brishti in Chandina; Husband Absconding
CHANDINA, CUMILLA

A mysterious death of a housewife named Brishti (25) has taken place in Chandina Upazila of Cumilla. Locals have alleged that she died as a result of brutal physical torture by her husband. Following the sensational incident, the accused husband, Suman, along with his family members, fled the area and went into hiding.

On Sunday (October 18), around 10:30 AM, police recovered the victim's body from Suman's house at Siraj Master's residence in East Para of Nazirpur village under the upazila. The deceased Brishti was a resident of Tamta village in neighboring Daudkandi upazila, while the accused Suman is the son of Mona Miah of Siraj Master's residence in East Para, Nazirpur, Chandina.

According to local sources, the accused husband, Suman, frequently subjected his wife to inhumane physical abuse. Local residents Sajib, Saiful Islam, and Giyasuddin stated that Brishti had been enduring continuous physical torture by Suman for a long time. She was reportedly subjected to severe torture for seven consecutive days leading up to her death.

Witnesses claimed that on Saturday afternoon, Suman beat his wife, wrapped a scarf (orna) around her neck, and dragged her home along the pond bank. As the housewife fell severely ill, attempts were made to take her to a hospital in the evening. Ultimately, around 9:00 PM, Suman brought Brishti back home dead in a rickshaw, left her body inside the house, and fled.

Saleha and Joynab Bibi, two neighbors, said that when Suman brought Brishti home in a rickshaw around 9:00 PM on Saturday, they came forward to assist. However, they grew suspicious upon finding no movement or breathing in her body. At that moment, Suman suddenly uttered a scream and ran away, after which it was confirmed that Brishti had passed away.

Confirming the incident, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chandina Police Station, Nuruzzaman, said that upon receiving the news, police immediately reached the spot and recovered the body. The corpse has been sent to the morgue at Cumilla Medical College Hospital for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. The relatives of the deceased are preparing to file a case, and police drives are underway to arrest the absconding husband, Suman. Appropriate legal action will be taken following a thorough investigation.
