Comilla sleeper bus catches fire, passengers miraculously survive
Bus burnt in Comilla

A luxurious sleeper coach caught fire on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Elliotganj, Daudkandi, Comilla. Fortunately, no casualties were reported as all passengers on the bus were able to get off quickly. The entire bus was gutted in the fire.

The accident occurred at around 4:30 am on Monday (August 17) in the Dhaka-bound lane near the Elliotganj Reliable CNG Filling Station on the highway.

Police and eyewitnesses said that a sleeper coach of 'Royal Cox Paribahan', which was leaving Cox's Bazar for Dhaka, hit a vehicle in front when it reached the Elliotganj area. This caused the front of the bus to twist and turn. Later, when the fire started from the gas cylinder, it spread to the entire bus in an instant. The intensity of the fire was so high that the luxurious sleeper coach was completely burnt down in a short time. At that time, the passengers of the bus were able to get off quickly and move away safely.

Local resident Billal Hossain Molla said, we ran after seeing the fire in the bus. All the passengers were able to get out safely. The fire was terrible. The entire bus was burnt down.

Elliotganj Highway Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Md. Faruk Islam said, the sleeper coach caught fire after hitting a car in front. On receiving the information, the police went to the spot and evacuated the passengers to a safe place. No one was injured in the incident.

He also said that the bus driver and helper fled the scene after the accident. The burnt bus has been recovered and taken into police custody. Currently, traffic on the highway is normal.
