A residential house belonging to farmer Madhu Miah was completely gutted by fire in Chandina, Cumilla. The incident occurred around 10 PM on Monday (September 21) in an area adjacent to Barkait Bazar in the upazila's Barkait Union.Eyewitnesses and locals reported seeing flames coming from Madhu Miah's house around 10 PM. Locals rushed to the scene and attempted to extinguish the blaze. Although the fire was brought under control after about an hour of effort, the house had already been completely destroyed. Locals stated that it was impossible to salvage any furniture or valuables from the house.Meanwhile, some locals expressed frustration, alleging that it took the Fire Service more than an hour to arrive at the scene after being notified.The affected farmer, Madhu Miah, said, "I couldn't figure out how the fire started. It spread across the entire house within a very short time. I couldn't get anything out. Having lost everything, I am now destitute."However, Imam Hossain Patwary, Station Officer of the Chandina Fire Service, stated that the fire service team arrived at the scene within 17 minutes of receiving the alert via the national emergency service number, 999. By that time, locals had already managed to bring the fire somewhat under control. Fire service personnel subsequently brought the blaze fully under control.He added that initial estimates suggest farmer Madhu Miah suffered losses exceeding five lakh taka. Preliminary assessments also indicate that the fire may have originated from an electrical short circuit.
