Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asaduzzaman Habib Dulu has said that 30 people have died so far in landslides and flood-related disasters in Chattogram and hilly regions caused by heavy rainfall. Of these, 19 died in Cox's Bazar, 5 in Chattogram, 5 in Bandarban, and 1 in Rangamati. In a statement given under Rule 300 in the Jatiya Sangsad on Thursday, July 9, he said 41 shelter centers have been opened in Chattogram, 640 in Cox's Bazar, 21 in Rangamati, 135 in Khagrachari, and 220 in Bandarban in the affected areas. A total of 8,340 people in Chattogram, 126 in Rangamati, 1,755 in Khagrachari, and 2,173 in Bandarban have taken shelter in these centers. The minister said that on July 7, the five affected districts were initially allocated Tk 1 million each in GR (cash) and 200 tonnes of rice each. Today, additional allocations were made Tk 2.5 million for Chattogram, Tk 2 million for Cox's Bazar, and Tk 1 million each for Rangamati, Khagrachari, and Bandarban. At the same time, rice allocations of 300 metric tonnes for Chattogram, 250 tonnes for Cox's Bazar, and 200 tonnes each for Rangamati, Khagrachari, and Bandarban have been made. He said loudspeaker announcements continue to urge people in risk-prone areas to move to safe shelters. Arrangements have been made for clean water, sanitation, baby food, and three meals a day at the shelter centers. The ministry's secretary is on site to oversee the disaster response, and district and upazila administrations are working around the clock. Asaduzzaman Habib Dulu said Tk 2 million has also been allocated to each affected district from the Prime Minister's Relief Fund. The Prime Minister is monitoring the situation continuously and issuing necessary directives, and further emergency allocations will be made as needed. Addressing the recurring loss of life due to landslides, the minister said the government is ready to relocate people living on risk-prone hillsides to safer locations, where homes will be built for them on khas land and other government land.

Seeking awareness-raising efforts and cooperation from local members of parliament in this work, he said that if everyone works together, it will be possible to significantly reduce loss of life from landslides in the future. State Minister for the Ministry of Land and Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs, Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin, informed the parliament under Rule 300 that 1,300 metric tonnes of rice assistance were provided yesterday to the three hill districts of the Chittagong Hill Tracts. On the Prime Minister's instructions, special disaster assistance of Tk 2 million each was disbursed this morning from the Prime Minister's Relief Fund to the district administrations of Chattogram, Rangamati, Khagrachari, and Bandarban, which they have accepted.
