Comilla-7 (Chandina) Member of Parliament Atikul Alam Shawon paid a sudden visit to Chandina Upazila Health Complex and caught a broker named Md. Ismail Hossain red-handed, handing him over to the police. On Sunday (October 4) afternoon, he was detained from the outdoor department area of the health complex. The detained Ismail is the son of Abu Musa from the Belashwar area of Chandina municipality.At noon, a team led by Member of Parliament Atikul Alam Shawon and the Upazila Health Officer and Hospital Director conducted a sudden inspection of the health complex. While the MP was touring the outdoor department and various rooms to check on patient services, a victimized patient directly complained against Ismail to the MP and his entourage in front of room number 203 of the outdoor department. The victim stated that despite the availability of free or low-cost treatment at the government hospital, Ismail had long been intimidating patients and luring them to private clinics with misinformation. Immediately upon receiving the complaint, on the instructions of the MP, on-duty Ansar members detained Ismail and later handed him over to the Chandina police station.Confirming the matter, Chandina Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Nuruzzaman stated that broker syndicate member Ismail has been taken into police custody and legal action is underway against him. At the same time, initiatives are being taken to send him to jail by sentencing him through a mobile court. Meanwhile, this sudden step by MP Atikul Alam Shawon has brought relief among general patients and their relatives who came to the hospital premises for treatment. They stated that government medical services were being disrupted due to the menace of brokers, and if such administrative surveillance and regular drives continue, ordinary people will be able to receive healthcare fearlessly.
