Bangladesh's 23rd presidential election will be held on August 20, with members of the Jatiya Sangsad set to cast their votes, according to the election schedule announced by the Election Commission (EC) on Thursday.EC Secretary Akhtar Ahmed announced the schedule at a press briefing on Thursday afternoon.Under the announced timetable, nomination papers can be submitted until August 13, while scrutiny of nominations will take place on August 16. The deadline for withdrawal of candidature has been set for August 18.Earlier on Thursday, the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat sent the electoral roll for the presidential election to the Election Commission. The voter list, comprising elected members of Parliament, reached the EC in the morning.Preparations for the election began after the resignation of the country's 22nd President, Mohammed Shahabuddin, on July 24. As part of the constitutional process, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A.M.M. Nasir Uddin has already held a meeting with the Speaker of Parliament.Under the Constitution of Bangladesh, only elected members of the Jatiya Sangsad are eligible to vote in the presidential election.
